Extremities a little worn, including head and tail of spine and rear hinge starting to crack, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 17 plates, including frontispiece and numerous wood engraved text figures and tables, and by title page vignette. The second big game volume, and twenty first to be published, of the Badminton Library of Sports and Pastimes. Covers hunting in the Arctic, Caucasus, Mongolia, the Alps, Scandinavia, Spain and Portugal, India, etc.; with a wide range of illustrations of the prey animals, trophies and hunters in action, including the inevitable tiger shoot. Clive Phillipps-Wolley (1853-1918) was a soldier, hunter and writer of patriotic verse. He served as British vice-consul at Kerch in the Crimea, a base for his hunting expeditions to the Caucasus. He later moved to British Columbia.
