8vo. 8.75 x 5.75 inches. 176 pp. Bound in original blue cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge wear, including chips at head and tail of spine and foxing on rear, with Travel Book Club series lists and titles on rear wrapper and inside. Extremities worn and foxing of flyleaves, some preliminaries and edges; otherwise a very good copy. Ownership stamp and inscriptions on first free endpaper. Illustrated by map, by 26 whole page scraperboard engravings and by vignettes in text, including head and tailpieces. Book club edition of an earlier work of BB in his travel writing phase in its first year of publication (by Nicholas Kaye). Account of the author's motor caravan holiday in western Scotland. Denys James Watkins-Pitchford (1905-90), naturalist, illustrator and children's author, was born in Northants, attended the Royal College of Art and taught at Rugby School for seventeen years from 1930. He wrote under the pseudonym 'B. B.' (a reference to the size of lead shot he favoured), but used his real name as illustrator.
