FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 9 x 6 inches. xvi + 293 pp. Bound in original green cloth, gilt, with gilt block on front board. Top edge gilt. Lower edge deckled. A little wear to extremities and light browning of pages, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 8 black and white plates and by 68 text figures. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. The first edition of a title several times revised. Robin George Collingwood (1889-1943) was an Oxford academic, philosopher, historian and archaeologist. He was the co-author of the first volume in the Oxford History of England, Roman Britain and the English Settlements (1936).
