FIRST EDITION. 8vo, in fours. 6 x 9 inches. [4] + xxviii + 129 + [1] pp. (pp. 15-17 bound in before pp. 1-14 in this copy)., with apparently no loss of text. Separate half titles for each section. Main text in double columns with Greek and English parallel texts. Bound in original maroon cloth, spine preserved with remains of printed paper spine label. Extremities and fly leaves worn and foxed and scattered foxing elsewhere; otherwise a very good copy. Printed ownership label of Mr. Jas. Woolnough, Cratfield pasted on to first free endpaper. Decorated by publisher's device on title page and as colophon at end. Surviving fragments, written in Greek, from Phoenician, Chaldaean, Egyptian, Tyrian, Persian and Carthaginian authors, with English translations. Compiled by Isaac Cory Preston (1810-42). An early publication of William Pickering (1796-1854). 1828 was the year of first use of the Aldine device and this title includes both Keynes' types i and ii (Keynes, William Pickering Publisher, p. 61). First edition of work reissued in 1832. A scarce Pickering imprint.
