The Album Of Ramsgate Views.
Charles, Reynolds and Co., 72 and 73 Fore Street and 18 and 20 Fore Street Avenue, E.C.
[n.d. but c.1885]
8vo. 6.5 x 8.75 inches. Folding glazed sepia photo-lithographic view book, extending to c.102 inches, containing 20 different views of the town and port including a panorama of Ramsgate from the sea c.35 inches long. Printed in Germany. Bound in original cloth spine over red decorated boards, blocked in gilt and including monogram of the publisher, Charles, Reynolds and Co. Extremities worn, especially to right hand edge of top board, but otherwise a very good copy. 1933 signature on rear pastedown. This is a charming example of these late nineteenth century German view books which are a mixture between photographs and lithographic drawings, they became popular from about 1875 to 1895 when improved photographic methods wiped them out. The panorama is very interesting depicting everything between West Cliff and the New Pier, the whole production is above average of it's type. A scarce title
