Tank The Progress Of A Monstrous War Machine.
Large 8vo. 6.25 x 9.5 inches. [x] + 499 pp. Bound in original black cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper, which is lightly worn. A little wear to extremities and some browning of pages and edges; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 8 pages of colour and black and white plates and by text figures. This is not a conventional military history of the tank but also an examination of its development as a twentieth century icon of oppression and fear. It investigates its symbolic life, from the 'Tanko' dance at the Gaiety Theatre in 1916 to the Soviet war memorial tank coloured pink in Prague in 1991.
