Slight wear to head and tail of spine and foxing of flyleaves and fore edge; otherwise a very good clean copy. 1877 gift inscription to Isabel Monckton on first free endpaper. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. Treatise on the education of women translated from the French, Femmes savants et femme studieuses. Chapter headings include Examples of learned women, Duty of woman to develop her intellect and Advantages of intellectual labour. Felix Antoine Philibert Dupanloup (182-78) was a leading French liberal catholic and educationalist. He became Bishop of Orleans 1849 and was elected to the Academie francaise in 1854. A scarce title.
