8vo. 5.75 x 8.75 inches. 286 + [1] pp. Bound in original red cloth, with black spine titles, in pictorial dust wrapper, which has slightly sunned spine and edge wear at head and tail of spine. A little foxing largely confined to edges and preliminaries; otherwise a very good copy. Signature of Helen Grierson on title page and letter from her, dated 1977, loosely tipped in. Illustrated by 8 pages of black and white plates, including portrait frontispiece. Biography of Georgina Weldon (1837-1914), Victorian celebrity, a singer who became famous for her litigation, with numerous appearances in the law courts, and even in prison, as a result of libel actions. She sued her husband and the French composer, Charles Gounod (1818-93), composer of Faust, whom she had befriended in England. By Edwqrd Grierson (1914-75), this copy is signed by Helen Grierson, with accompanying letter.
