The rev. john h. godwin, professor of philosophy and greek exegesis, new college, london.
MANUSCRIPT AND ENGRAVING. 8vo. 6.5 x 9.25 inches. Manuscript letter, 1 leaf. Single sheet of correspondence and portrait mounted on card with ink title on front. Illustrated by steel engraved portrait. A letter from John H. Godwin of St Johns Wood, dated 12 January 1853, to the Rev. G. Smith, asking him to take or assist at a service on the following 20 February. The Rev. John H. Godwin is identified as a Professor at New College, London. This was a Congregational college formed as a result of a merger of several institutions in 1850. It became part of the Theology Faculty of the University of London in 1900 and was closed in 1980. It is possible that Godwin may be identified as the philosopher, John Hensley Godwin (1809-89).
