The Federation of South Arabia, eventually consisting of Aden, Yemen and the Protectorate of South Arabia, was a British crown colony from 1962-67. In that year independence was gained as two states, the Yemen Arab Republic (North Yemen) and the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (South Yemen), the two merging to form Yemen in 1990. The author of this history of South Arabia from 1951-67, Sir Gerald Kennedy Nicholas Trevaskis (1915-90), army officer and colonial administrator, served in Eritrea during the War and as High Commissioner of Aden, 1963-65.
