Large 8vo. 6.5 x 9 inches. [viii] + 35 + [1] pp. Bound in contemporary quarter red cloth over maroon, gilt; spine in compartments with raised bands, decorated gilt and blind stamping with contrasting black title label, gilt. Label of Pennine Binding Halifax. Browning of half title and final page, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 12 tipped in colour plates, with captioned tissue guards, including frontispiece. Faint signature at head of title. Sixteen mystery tales of Edgar Allan Poe, handsomely bound and illustrated by Byam Shaw (1872-1919), artist, book illustrator, and later art teacher, who died in the post war influenza epidemic.
