The first part is a biography of Sir Charles Igglesden (1861-1939), journalist, sportsman and Kent county councillor. Igglesden today is best known for his authorship of the series, A Saunter through Kent with Pen and Pencil, which first appeared, from 1899, as articles in the Kentish Express of Ashford, of which he was editor. The Saunters, covering a total of 242 towns and villages, were published in thirty four hardback volumes,1900-44, all illustrated by Xavier Willis (1872-1947). It has recently come to light that nine villages, Bonnington, Luddenham, Norton, Oare, Otterden, Postling, Selling, Stalisfield and Stowting, were never published in hardback and these articles, are now reprinted in the second part of this book, to form Volume 35 of the series.
