Ex library copy with stamps and evidence of label removal on front endpaper; otherwise a very good clean copy. Illustrated by black and white photographs, including half title and by drawings, maps, tables, facsimiles and silhouettes. Pictorial endpapers. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. Part One is a history and description of the Saltees Islands, off the coast of Co. Wexford; Part Two is an account of the Islands' bird life, with a list of species. Richard Roche (d. 2015) was an Irish journalist, editor of the Irish Independent, 1968-87, historian of the Wexford area and author of The Norman Invasion of Ireland (1970). Oscar Merne (1943-2013), ornithologist and conservationist, was Warden of Wexford Wildfowl Reserve and a writer on birds. (Dictionary of Irish Biography).
