Illustrated by 16 colour plates and by black and white frontispiece and 86 black and white figures in text, many full page. Pictorial endpapers. From the February Revolution of 1917 to The Soviet Writers' Congress of 1934, the Russian book was at the forefront of avant-garde movements, with inventive typography, the use of photomontage and graphic styles resembling posters. Illustrated throughout with examples from the British Library's extensive collections, by Dr. Susan P. Compton, art historian.
