A little wear to extremities, fly leaves browned and some foxing, largely confined to fore edge; otherwise a very good copy. Partly obliterated signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by frontispiece and 16 pages of black and white photographs, by 17 maps, of which 15 in text, including whole page, and two are colour folding, including one at end, and by double page diagram. A classic survey of the Roman roads of Britain. First published in two volumes in 1955, this is the revised third edition of the one volume edition of 1967. Ivan Donald Margary (1896-1976) was a historian and archaeologist, elected FSA in 1932. A leading authority on Roman roads, he developed a a simple and ingenious system of road numbering.
