Boards have some damp stains and slight spotting of edges; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 8 pages of black and white portrait plates. Biography of Frederick John Robinson, Viscount Goderich, from 1827-33. From a Yorkshire landowning family he entered Lord Liverpool's Government as President of the Board of Trade in 1818 and later held the post of Chancellor of the Exchequer for four years. He served 144 days as Prime Minister between the ministries of Canning and Wellington, 1827-28. Created Earl of Ripon in 1833, he also held office in Peel's second government. Wilbur Devereux Jones (d.2004) was professor of history at the University of Georgia, retiring in 1983.
