Large 4to. 10 x 13.5 inches. xix + [i] + 83 + [1] pp. + [76] pp. plates. Bound in original half white cloth over blue stiff card boards; spine id compartments with double bands and gilt titles. Extremities worn, spine darkened and occasional traces of foxing; otherwise a very good copy. Bookplate. illustrated by 47 plates in text and by 76 pages of plates at end, some in red and black or coloured (numbered 1-122). A collection of contemporary type face specimens from England, the continent of Europe and the US by Oliver Simon (1895-1956), printer and writer on typography and Julius Rodenberg (1884-1970), German bibliographer, librarian and historian. After war service Simon joined the Curwen Press, printers of this book, becoming its chairman in 1949. His standard work, Introduction to Typography, had appeared in 1945. The introduction to this volume is by the writer Aldous Huxley (1894-1963).
