8vo. 7 x 5.25 inches. ix + [i] + 198 pp. Bound in original blue cloth, gilt with black and gilt titles and gilt block on front board, in price clipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has edge wear, including chips at head, tail and edges of spine. Speckled blue edges. Top edge a little sunned but otherwise a very good copy. Map bookplate and label of Edward Carpenter. Illustrated by 12 black and white and by 36 text figures. Pictorial patterned endpapers. A guide to collecting, breeding and displaying insects in the Warne Wayside Woodland series. It is primarily concerned with butterflies and moths, but also covers ants, wasps and humble-bees. Richard Laurence Edward Ford (1913-96) was the son of an entomologist from Bexley, Kent and became an accomplished field collector. Ford worked at a butterfly farm and at the Watkins and Doncaster entomological supply shop (then located in the Strand) and for the Natural History Museum, to which he contributed many specimens.
