Oblong 4to. 12.5 x 8.5 inches. 48 pp. All text and captions in English and French. Bound in original brown cloth with blind stamped decorative borders enclosing ornamental gilt title block. A little wear to extremities and scattered foxing throughout including plates and margins; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by sixty panoramic views on 20 steel engraved plates Panoramic views of both banks of the Rhine with descriptive and historical letterpress text. Library Hub and WorldCat record two editions, although their imprints do not quite correspond with this version. Albert Henry Payne (1812-1902) was an engraver, painter and illustrator, who lived in Leipzig from 1839. A scarce title.
