Illustrated throughout in colour and black and white, including double page title and text figures in introduction. Catalogue with 102 entries of the exhibition held in 2009-10. Sandby, long considered the father of English watercolour painting, worked throughout Britain. He pictured the country in all its rural, urban, modern and historical aspects, from street life and domestic gardens, to royal parkland, ancient castles and ruined abbeys. His plan and sketch of the Battle of Culloden, 1746, are included.
