8vo. 7.75 x 5.5 inches. xx + 346 pp. Publisher's advertisements on verso of half title. Bound in original dark maroon cloth, gilt. with blind stamped borders on boards and gilt bands on spine. A little wear to extremities, including tail of spine, but otherwise a fib=ne clean interior. Illustrated by 8 colour plates, including frontispiece, 4o black and white plates and by numerous text figures. Decorated by title page, chapter headings and initials. An attractively illustrated standard work on interior decoration. Walter John Pearce (1856-1942) was best known as stained glass artist. At the time this title was first published in 1898, he was lecturing at The Manchester Municipal School of Technology on painting and decorating. Seven editions were eventually published.
