Bound in contemporary grained calf, with gilt borders enclosing decorative tooling on boards, gilt title and inner dentelles; spine in compartments with raised bands, decorated gilt. Marbled endpapers. All l edges gilt. Spine sunned and some foxing of plate margins; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 10 sepia pasted in plates, including frontispiece and by decorative section headings. Decorated by title, contents page and tailpiece vignettes, by rubricated initials and by colophon at end. A handsomely bound copy of one of the best known medieval devotional works, by Thomas ? Kempis (c.1380-1471), born in the Duchy of Cleves. The earliest recorded version in Library Hub is a' new edition 'of 1841.
