FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 9 x 5.5 inches. [iv] + 116 + pp. In quarter cream cloth over grey stiff card boards with black titles and printed spine title label. Deckled edges. Some pages uncut. The first third of the book consists of the author's thoughts on collecting, including cards, games old silver, stay busks and knitting sheaths, seals, books, calendars, clocks, religious objects, etc. The greater part of the work is Appendix A, listing cookery books in the British Museum, the Bodleian, Cambridge and the Patent Office Library, from 1508 to 1699. These entries supply title page details. The section from 1701 to 1814 contains selected brief title entries. Arnold Whitaker Oxford (1854-1948) was educated in Bristol and at Christ Church, Oxford, being ordained in 1878. He held a number of London livings but after 1904 took up the practice of medicine (London Wiki website).
