39 VOLUMES. Miniature. 1.5 x 2.5 inches. Pagination varies, c.350-c.500 pp. Set lacks Midsummer Night's Dream. Bound in original limp suede leather with blind stamped borders enclosing coat of arms, gilt titles on spines, shelved in swivelling wooden bookcase on a turned wood stand. Each volume has engraved frontispiece. A set of miniature volumes of Shakespeare, including the Sonnets and other poems and The Shakespeare Glossary, published by David Bryce of Glasgow (1845-1923). It is part of the various literary sets dedicated to Ellen Terry, which Bondy considers to be ' Bryce's greatest achievement as a leading promoter of miniature books,' with the forty volume Shakespeare being 'the most prodigious of these sets ( Bondy, Miniature Books).
