Minor wear to extremities, but otherwise a very good set. Loosely inserted: Obituary Sir Julian Huxley, [from Daily Telegraph, 15/2/75]. Illustrated by 28 pages of plates, including 2 portrait frontispieces, of which one a coloured drawing, the rest black and white photographs,and by text figures and facsimile. First edition of the autobiography of Julian Huxley (1887-1975), whose grandfather was Thomas Henry Huxley, supporter of Charles Darwin and the theory of natural selection. Huxley, an evolutionary biologist, was one of Britain's leading scientists. He was a humanist, eugenicist, internationalist and traveller who served as first Director- General of UNESCO, 1946-48. Huxley, a prolific author, co-operated with H. G. Wells and his son on the publication of The Science of Life (1929-30).
