8vo. 7.5 x 5.25 inches. 334 pp. Bound in original blue cloth, gilt. Deckled fore edge and uncut pages. Extremities worn with chips at head and tail of spine. Fly leaves browned and edges spotted; otherwise a very good copy. The experiences of the character George Sherston in the trenches, 1916-17, his wounding and convalescence at home. Here he begins to oppose the war and as a result is about to be sent to hospital for shell shock treatment. The fictionalised second part of the autobiography of soldier, war poet and author, Siegfried Sassoon (1886-1967). The first part, Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man was published in 1928 and the third part in 1936. The fourth impression of this immediately popular work appeared in October 1930, only a month after first publication in September.
