A critical edition of Pharsalia by the Roman poet, Marcus Annaeus Lucanus (39-65), edited by Pieter Burman (1668-1741) edited by the Dutch classical scholar, Pieter Burman, the Elder (1668-1741), of the Universities of Utrecht and Leiden. The subject matter of the poem is the Roman Civil War, 49-45 BC and the defeat of the army of Pompey the Great by Julius Caesar at the Battle of Pharsalus, in Thessaly, 48 BC.
