Small 8vo. 2.5 x 4.75 inches. 640 + [6] pp. Text in Latin. Bound in contemporary vellum, with handwritten title, Plautus, on spine. Extremities somewhat age stained, but otherwise a very good copy. Signature on first free endpaper. Illustrated by engraved title page. Decorated by endpiece vignettes. 1640 Amsterdam edition of the plays of the Roman playwright, Plautus (c.254-184 BC). About twenty of his plays survive, four of which are incomplete. At the end is a brief life of Plautus and some early critical opinion. Publication by the famous Amsterdam cartography business of Blaeu. Joan (1596-1673) and Cornelis were the sons of the founder Willem Janszoom Blaeu (1571-1638).
