A little wear to extremities and browning of fly leaves, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 15 pages of black and white plates, including portrait frontispiece. Decorated by title page vignette. Biography of the Irish born actress and socialite, Margaret Woffington, known as Peg (1720-60). She performed at Drury Lane, sometimes taking male roles, had a relationship with the famous actor, David Garrick and was painted by Hogarth, a fellow member of the Beefsteak Club, of which she became president.
