Account of the author's visit to Devil's Island, the penal colony in French Guiana and his subsequent travels in West Africa. Gordon Sinclair (1900-84) was a controversial Canadian journalist and writer, who, in the 1930s, was filing reports from exotic locations around the world for the Toronto Star prior to publishing them in in book form.
