A work of collective biography by Lucy Poate Stebbins (1886-1958), first published 1958. The subjects are Lord sandwich, Martha Ray and James Hackman; Elizabeth Simpson Inchbald; Amelia Alderson Opie; Sally and Maria Siddons; Dorothea Lieven and Jane Walsh, Thomas Carlyle and Edward Irving. Several of these lives also extend into the nineteenth century.
