A little wear to extremities and some foxing of plates, largely confined to margins, but sometimes affecting the image; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 40 plates, including frontispiece and engraved vignette title. (including 'dark plates'). An early issue of the first book edition of the novel which features a child raised in the Marshalsea debtors prison. It had previously appeared in weekly parts. Dickens's errata after the plates list, notes the need to substitute the name Blandois for Rigaud in chapter XVII. The text includes the internal flaws noted by Smith. (Smith, I, 12).
