FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 5 x 7.5 inches. 97 + [1] pp. Bound in original green cloth, with yellow titles, in dust wrapper, which is slightly sunned with small stain on front wrapper. A little spotting of fly leaves, but otherwise a very good clean copy. illustrated by 2 facsimile plates, including frontispiece. Alun Lewis (1915-44) was a Welsh poet, regarded as one of the best known English language poets of the Second World War. The Letters, written to his wife, Gweno (who edited them with Gwyn Jones), and to his parents, describe his war service in India and Burma. Some of his poetry is evaluated in the preface by A. L Rowse.
