12mo. 3.75 x 5.5 inches. 109 pp. Bound in quarter calf over paper covered boards, spine in compartments, decorated gilt, with gilt title. Some wear to extremities and traces of foxing, but otherwise a very good copy. Early bookseller's label of Theophile Barrois, Quai Voltaire No.11 a Paris and ink note in French both on front pastedown, stating that book was a gift from owner's sister. Cutting from bookseller's catalogue tipped in to first free endpaper. Illustrated by frontispiece and by 20 wood engravings within oval roundels in text. A juvenile work designed to improve the English of French children within the context of a moral story; Master Headstrong is led astray by Miss Passion, before once more being met by Miss Patience and Reason,'whom he resolved never more to leave.' Scarce item illustrated by charming woodcuts. (ESTC T125313).
