12mo, in eights. 4 x 6 inches. 64 pp. + 64 pp + 64 pp. Each part has separate title page, pagination and register. Bound in contemporary vellum. A little wear to extremities, but otherwise a very good crisp copy. Decorated by title page, head and tailpiece vignettes and by initials, A slightly salacious tongue in cheek work of fiction, in three parts, with spoof imprints. The B*** in the title is Bruxelles and the actual place of publication is likely to be Brussels or The Hague, centres of publication for books that could not be published in France ('des Editions furtives,' p. [viii]). Fran?ois-Antoine Chevrier (1721-62), born in Nancy, was a French satirist and playwright, who sometimes used his nom de plume, Le Colporteur, with which he has signed this copy. In this notice ('Avis'), he appears to offer parts two and three as free copies to those who already have the first part. This scarce title seems to have been first published in The Hague, 1740-41.
