Illustrated by 16 pages of black and white plates and by 4 maps. Making use of recently opened archives, the author has been able to piece together the private life as well as the public activity of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. Robert Service (1947-) is an academic historian, who specialises in the history of the former Soviet Union and of Russia. Lenin is the first part of a trilogy on the lives of the three Bolshevik leaders and is followed by Stalin and Trotsky.
