TWO VOLUMES. 4to. 9.5 x 7 inches. Vol. I, xii + and Vol. II, iv + c.92 letterpress plate captions for each vol. Bound in half green morocco over green patterned boards; spines in compartments with raised bands, decorated gilt. All edges gilt. Minor wear to extremities and some foxing of plates, largely confined to margins and back; otherwise a very good set. Label of George Batters Bookseller, Stationer and Printer Nottingham. Illustrated by 2 engraved title pages and by 95 steel engraved plates. The engravings of Palestine, the Middle East and the eastern Mediterranean world include sketches by Turner and David Roberts. The brothers, William (1787-1852) and Edward Francis (1791-1857), Finden often worked for John Murray, specialising in portraits and landscapes. The Rev. Thomas Hartwell Horne (1780-1862) was a theologian, bibliographer and librarian, who worked as a senior assistant in the Department of Printed Books of the British Museum, 1824-60.
