4to. 8.25 x 10.5 inches. 64 pp. In pictorial card wrapper. A fine copy. Illustrated by black and white portrait frontispiece and 18 text figures and by 44 pages of colour plates. Exhibition catalogue of the forty eight exhibits by a curator of Tate Gallery St Ives, of the artist, John Wells (b.1907). A major figure of British Constructivism, he was for many years a central figure in the St Ives group of artists and played a key role in establishing the town as leading centre for modern art in the post-war years. In his work he was influenced by the structures he saw around him, birds, shells, cliffs and by his interest in the science and geometry of natural forms. His art demonstrates his very personal response to the landscape of West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
