This Ming Dynasty drama by Li Hsing-tao is better known under the title "The Chalk Circle". It became the principal source for Bertold Brecht's "Caucasian Chalk Circle". The story is about Judge Pao, who places an infant inside a chalk circle to determine his real mother.This copy was printed for the Right Honourable The Earl of Mount-Norris, a member of the Royal Asiatic Society, and a subscriber to the Oriental Translation Fund.
