FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 6.75 x 4.5 inches. viii + 416 pp. +  pp. publisher's advertisements. In buff stiff card wrapper, with list of author's publications on rear boards; spine rebacked in cloth with black titles. Extremities worn and rubbed and early ink signature on front board. Some foxing of map, preliminaries, including title, and edges with top edge darkened; otherwise a very good copy. Pencil notes on two blank pages at end. Illustrated by folding map of environs of Paris in red and black as frontispiece. An early chronological account of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. The author, Henry Allnutt (1813-98) was the founder and publisher of the landed property journal, the Estates Gazette in 1858. He is described on the title page as a former Inspector of Drainage and was the author on numerous titles on agricultural, horticultural and estate related matters as well as on his later topical interest in the Franco-Prussian War (see list on rear wrapper). A scarce title.
