Well illustrated account of the career and work of the Dutch avant garde artist, typographer and printer, Henrik Nicolaas Werkman (1882-1945), by Alston W. Purvis (b.1943), graphic designer of Boston University College of Fine Art. During the German occupation, Werkman established a clandestine printing house. He was executed by a Gestapo firing squad three days before the liberation of his home city of Groningen was liberated. In the course of this battle much of his work was destroyed.
