Oblong 8vo. 9 x 7 inches.  pp. letterpress. View book of collotype prints containing 16 different images. Bound in maroon cloth, decorated by gilt borders enclosing gilt title on front board. Some foxing of title and series pages but otherwise a very good copy. Some of the prints are discretely marked and have early captions below in ink to indicate individuals and buildings shown. A view book of fine collotype prints of Sanquhar, a royal burgh on the River Nith, known for having the world's oldest working post office (1712), now in Dumfries and Galloway region. The book also includes views of Drumlanrig Castle and of Dumfries. It was published by a local company and produced for them by Valentine and Sons Ltd. of Dundee as part of their series of such view books. Valentine, founded in 1851, became Scotland's largest producer of picture postcards. A scarce title.
