In fine condition.
3rd September 1845,
Original watercolour, 9 x 4.75 inches, mounted in conservation materials, outer size 13.5 x 9.5 inches.
From a sketchbook of Picken's watercolours, broken up some time in the 1980s, and sold as a collection.
This panoramic view of the viaduct looking south shows the completed viaduct with locomotive and train passing over, with the Darlington Arch to the right and the tower of the parish church beyond. This was painted less than two years after the viaduct was completed and before any development in the Foord Road area, and this was still at this point a popular picnic spot and a rural idyll.
