Item Description
Aquatint and etching in original hand colouring. 9 x 12 ins. Mounted in conservation materials ready for framing. tag Published as part of Daniell's monumental ten-year 'Voyage Round the Coast of Great Britain' which he completed in 1825. It contained 308 highly finished hand-coloured aquatint plates, which were issued in parts between 1814 and 1825. In this fine Arcadian view of Folkestone from the East Cliff, the sheep stare over the newly-completed harbour and the fishermen's houses, dominated by the parish church on the cliff above. Such is the skill of Daniell's engraving that the view can almost be mistaken for a watercolour.
