Notes

Lal Behari Day (1826-94) was a Bengali who converted to Christianity. From 1855-67 he was a missionary and Free Church of Scotland Minister and from 1867-89 was a professor of English at two government colleges. The first edition of his Bengali folk tales was published in 1883.
