Extremities a little worn with small edge stain but otherwise a very good copy. Berlin bookseller's label, manuscript date of 1882, label and embossed stamp relating to Valleyres, Vaud, Switzerland and stamp of Institut de Botanique, 'Geneve Universite.' Decorated by publisher's device on title page. A synopsis of all vascular plants known to inhabit the British West Indian islands. I t was based on an examination of the author's own West Indian herbarium and on on four visits to the collections at Kew. August Grisebach (1814-79) was a German botanist, taxonomist and phytogeographer and Professor of Botany at the University of G?ttingen. He carried out botanical expeditions to several parts of Europe and developed the concept of the floral province. Grisebach considered the Flora of the British West Indian Islands to be his most significant work. A very scarce title.
