The author was a Captain in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during the First World War and was wounded in the Easter Rising of 1916 - his literary style make these stories quite distinctive and this was the first collection of short stories that he published during the War. Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, eighteenth Baron Dunsany (1878-1957) was educated at Eton and Sandhurst and outside the army decided to follow a literary rather than a political career, living chiefly in Kent
