Notes

The author relates the history and archaeology of the near east to the prophecies of the Bible. Alexander Keith (1791-1880) was a Church of Scotland minister, who took his DD from the University of Aberdeen in 1833. This book was based on the accounts of travellers to the region before Keith himself visited Palestine, in 1839, having been sent by the Church to inquire into the state of the Jews. He joined the Free Church of Scotland in 1843 and revisited Palestine in 1844, taking some of the earliest daguerreotype photographs. This title proved vary popular and was published in forty editions from the 1820s to the 80s.
