Well illustrated survey in the English Heritage series, of the Iron Age in Britain from about 700 BC to the Roman Conquest. It examines the land and people, the emergence of tribal entities, the role of chiefs and kings and war and religion in Celtic society. Barry Cunliffe (b.1939) excavated at numerous sites, including Fishbourne, Bath, Danebury and Hengistbury Head. He served as Professor of European Archaeology at the University of Oxford, 1972-2007.
