The Colloquia of Erasmus, a work of Christian Humanism was first published in 1518 and expanded in twelve new editions by 1533. It consists of some fifty individual colloquies, or formal dialogues, on a variety of subjects, all written in a gentle humorous style. This 1655 Leiden edition was edited by Cornelis Schrevel (1608-64), was a physician and scholar, born in Haarlem, and head of the college faculty of the University of Leiden after 1642.
